Old Friends

I have been running into old friends of the 15th med from Grafe. Just last week had dinner with Cal and Susan Irvin in Clarksville, TN. Really enjoyed reliving some old times from Ft Stewart and the 498th med and Grafe with the 15th Med. Cal told me that Drandon Despres lived in AL just out side of Huntsville. My wife has family in Scottsboro which is about 25 miles from Tiny and Cindy. I have been in touch with them and we be seeing them the first weekend of September. It is always good to see… Continue

Some 15th Med Det history:

I was a mechanic in the 15th from the spring of 63 to the spring of 65. The day I got there the H-19's were being turned in. They were replaced by 5 H-13's with litter pods. One test flight a pod fell off, luckily it was on the opposite side of the tail rotor. I went on a flight that we covered a parachute drop. We hauled 2 injured in the pods and us inside, slighty over gross. The 15th came over during the Berlin crises. We had a canvas hanger with a shop made out of wall lockers put…

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Cindy and I are wishing everyone a very bless and merry Christmas. We will be traveling to Dothan, AL for Christmas with our grandkids (3 in all). Will be staying at home for New Years in an attempt to complete our new house. Hope everyone enjoys bringing in the New Year with cheer and good friends.

I was assigned to the 15th Med Det in Nov 1977. Back then we only had the white canvas quansut looking hanger.

Big enough for 2 UH-1's. The office was in the back. Looking at one of the aerial pics on the site it appears to still be there but now theres a steel hanger next to it. There was a SSG named "Greasy" (thats what everyone called him anyways) at the hangar directly across. He had worked on the fixed wing aircraft there for years.
